Finding the right flight instructor (cont)
By Steve Krog

Learning to fly is a big decision. It requires time, expense, and commitment. Yes, it’s frustrating to encounter experiences like these prospective students had. However, don’t be discouraged. Keep searching and you’ll find a flight school and an instructor that shares the same enthusiasm as you do for flying!
There are several things that you, as a prospective new student, might consider. First, check out the EAA sport pilot website (www.sportpilot.org). Click on flight instructors listed by state. Find several that are nearest you and call them.
Another good option is on the chapters section of the EAA website (http://www.EAA.org/chapters/locator/) to find out which EAA Chapters are located near you. The Chapter listing will provide you with the name, address and phone number of the Chapter president. Call, explain your flight training needs, and ask for their advice on a flight school. You’ll find EAA chapter members to be very helpful - many will recommend a flight instructor with whom they have personally worked.
Flying is a lot of fun! Don’t let a poorly managed flight school or an instructor lacking passion discourage your drive to earn your license.
