09/27/04 - FAA MOVES DATE FOR SPORT PILOT STUDENT APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS
The FAA annunced that it has moved the first day to submit sport pilot student applications from November 15 to January 15 after determining that its Registration Office in Oklahoma City would not be ready to accept applications at that time. The original date was announced at the Oklahoma City government-industry meetings held in early September.
“FAA Form 8710-11 for proficiency check or airman certification will be done, but the airman records division will not be ready to process those applications,” said Martin Weaver, manager of the FAA’s Light-Sport Aviation Branch. The sport pilot airman’s knowledge test will be ready on November 15, 2004, Weaver added, and the sport pilot examiner application should be available in late October.
To apply for a student sport pilot certificate, an applicant must complete form 8710-11, which will be available on the FAA website, and submit the application to a local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) or to a designated pilot examiner (DPE). After the FAA authorizes sport pilot examiners (SPEs), prospective sport pilot students may submit applications to them as well.
