11/16/04 - FAA RELEASES SPORT PILOT EXAMINER HANDBOOK
The new Sport Pilot Examiner Handbook (FAA Order 8710.7) is now available on the FAA website. The handbook provides guidance and procedures for sport pilot designated pilot examiners (SPEs) and outlines the privileges, responsibilities, and limitations of examiner designations and authorizations.
Individuals wishing to become sport pilot examiners (SPEs) or sport pilot flight instructor examiners (SFIEs) may submit an application to the Light-Sport Aviation Branch office in Oklahoma City. To be considered for selection when the first Light-Sport Standardization Selection Board (LSSB) meets on November 29, 2004, applicants need to complete the form and return it no later than November 23, 2004,. Applications received after November 23 will be considered during subsequent LSSB meetings.
Current ultralight flight instructors and examiners may include a letter of recommendation from their sponsoring organization. If you are an EAA ultralight instructor, visit the EAA Ultralights website and complete an on-line request, or request a letter via e-mail, ultralights@eaa.org, or call 920/426-6831. Once a request is received, EAA will mail you a letter of recommendation.
The first SPE and SFIE training seminars are scheduled for mid-January 2005, with additional seminars to be conducted on a continuing basis thereafter.
