04/07/05 - FIXED-WING MANUFACTURERS GET THE GREEN LIGHT TO SELL READY-TO-FLY LSA
Light-sport aircraft manufacturers producing fixed-wing LSA can now sell their aircraft as special LSA (S-LSA), opening the door for sport pilots and others to purchase these aircraft. The FAA Thursday (April 7) issued a Notice of Availability (NOA) for the last critical consensus standard for this category of LSA, “Standard Practice for Maintenance and the Development of Maintenance Manuals for Light Sport Aircraft.”
Larry Werth, light-sport aircraft program manager for the Small Airplane Directorate, confirmed that the NOA had been signed earlier today. “This is the last piece of the puzzle; now fixed-wing S-LSA manufacturers can issue their statements of compliance with the ASTM consensus standards and start selling aircraft.” Work continues on the standards for experimental LSA (E-LSA) kits for all categories of LSA. |
