06/21/05 - EAA SP TOUR GAINS MOMENTUM AT FRANKLIN
More interest, more people, more displays, more manufacturers and more aircraft
June 21, 2005 - An estimated 400-500 curious EAA members and others came out last weekend to attend the third EAA Sport Pilot Tour at Franklin, Pennsylvania’s Venago Regional Airport (FKL), hosted by EAA Chapters 988 and 161. With 14 different LSA from various manufacturers on display, attendees had ample opportunity to kick plenty of tires, take demonstration rides, and talk to pilots and company personnel.
As one attendee put it, “The sun was out, the air was cool, breakfast was ready, seminars were great, and about 14 light-sport aircraft were on display. If you want to be a sport pilot or own a light-sport aircraft this event was for you!”
Earl Lawrence and Ron Wagner gave a two-part forum attended by 135 people. Earl’s topic was sport pilot opportunities for newcomers to aviation. Wagner spoke about the technical side of sport pilot, including medicals for existing pilots returning to aviation through their driver’s license and buying a light-sport aircraft.
The tour started on June 3-4 in Marysville, California, went on to St. Louis, Missouri, June 11, to last weekend’s event at Franklin, Pennsylvania, June 18. The next appearance will be throughout the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh July 25-31. Check out the Light-Sport Aircraft Mall and see more LSA than you’ve ever seen before.
