About 85 EAA members and other aviation enthusiasts turned out for two chapter-hosted sport pilot/light-sport aircraft (SP/LSA) informational sessions Tuesday and Wednesday in Southern California. EAA Chapter 7 in Long Beach welcomed attendees to the Long Beach Airport (LGB) on Tuesday and EAA Chapter 1 hosted Wednesday night’s event at Flabob Airport (RIR) in Riverside.
Ron Wagner, manager of EAA field relations, discussed SP/LSA rules as well as activities and participation opportunities available to EAA chapters. Tuesday’s event was held at AirFlite's deluxe jet facility at Long Beach, while Wednesday’s meeting took place at Flabob’s auditorium at the airport. Both locations featured lively discussions and numerous questions raised by those in attendance.

Sport pilot marketing consultant Dan Johnson followed up Wagner’s presentations with reviews of the aircraft expected at EAA’s fifth Sport Pilot Tour stop set for Saturday, December 3, at the Camarillo Airport. EAA expects 14 LSA brands to exhibit at the event, which would be the most yet at any tour stop.
Wagner and Johnson are also visiting flight schools at the LGB, John Wayne (SNA), Van Nuys (VNY) and Santa Paula (SZP) airports before the Saturday tour stop at Camarillo, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
